Hot Coffee
Ellie Mae splashed coffee on her customer.
He shoved his chair back from the crumb-covered table. “Damn, that’s hot!”
She blushed. “Let me —”
“I can wipe my own lap. And you ain’t gettin’ no tip. How long you been waitressing, anyway?”
Ellie Mae stared over his head through the dingy blinds. “Let’s see. Was it when Billy Bob got married? That was five years ago. No, it was even before that. When Jimmy got his new shotgun? Yeah.”
Her eyes widened. “That was ten years ago.” She untied her stained apron and threw it on the table. “I quit!”

No Sense
Harry slammed the front door and flung his Billy-Bob’s Car Repair cap onto the kitchen table. “It don’t make sense. No sense at all.”
His wife frowned. “What makes no sense?”
“I been havin’ problems with a couple cars in the shop. I keep hearin’ strange engine noises when I take ’em out for a test drive after they’re repaired. I run ’em back to the service department for another inspection, but the guys there don’t never find nothin’. The boss said he’d take care of it. Then he up and fires me.”
“Why?”
“He hired a deaf service manager.”
